6 Benefits of Doing Yoga When You First Wake Up

As humans, we are sticklers for our routines and none are as important to us as our morning one. Whether it’s a large cup of coffee (or multiple) or a long shower, people usually do the same thing every day. Getting used to a new morning routine can be hard, but including yoga into your morning routine has so many benefits. Yoga is beneficial when it’s done at any time of the day. But waking up with a light dose of yoga can have emotional, mental, and physical health benefits.

  1. It will wake you up

Exercising when you first wake up can actually energize you more than a cup of coffee or a cold shower. If you find yourself struggling to wake up in the morning, needing multiple alarm, or chugging cup after cup of coffee, consider doing a quick yoga session when you get out of bed. It will get your blood flowing, your body moving, and your mind sharpening.

  1. It will help you sleep better

You’re probably thinking, “how does morning yoga help me sleep better at night?” Hear us out.  Morning yoga has been proven to regulate sleep rhythm and even balance hormones! Knowing you will be waking up and exercising first thing will also have an impact on the importance you place on bedtime. It will push you to go to bed earlier knowing you can’t press the snooze button multiple times.

  1. It will be more likely to get done

Life has a way of interrupting our plans. Even the best of us have had to bail on a yoga class due to after-work drinks, staying in the office late, traffic, or other events. Once your schedule gets pushed, exercise is often the first thing to get cut. Doing yoga when you first wake up greatly reduces the chances of other things getting in the way. Trust us, it will feel great leaving work knowing you already have your daily workout out of the way.

  1. It will boost your metabolism

Here’s a benefit everyone’s going to love. Practicing morning yoga warms up your digestive system, making food go through your body easier. That means your metabolism will work better. A better running metabolism combined with exercise means that your body will be looking and functioning better than ever.

  1. It prevents injury and aching during the day

No matter how great the mattress or sleep, you can still wake up feeling stiff, tight, or sore. Doing yoga is the perfect way to work out all the kinks you accumulated during the night and the day before. Even if you don’t feel any, as you go through the day they will make themselves more known. Yoga will help you feel good physically as you get through the day.

  1. It will start your day off right

If the first thing you do waking up is go to a place of peace how can your day not start off right? Early morning yoga will put your mind and body in a calm place. It will focus your thoughts, center your body, and balance your emotions. If all of those things are working well, chances are your day will be better.

Waking up with yoga is guaranteed to benefit you. It can be as intense or as calm as you want. Some prefer to get their full workout done right away, while other’s use a more gentle yoga session to just wake up. Feel free to try it out and find out which one works for you.
